If you think the budget is something that you only work on a few
months out of the year, then this workshop is for you! Finalizing
the budget is just the first step in understanding costs. How do you
handle the unexpected expense that inevitably derails your budget?
What tools should you be using to monitor and forecast expenses
throughout the fiscal year? We will also discuss how your budget
ties into your department’s goals and master plans. Then we will
discuss how we set prices for our recreation and park services. That’s
a question that often gets answered with a shrug. While we all have
our methods, often we are unaware of many factors that should
come into play. We will learn about the various aspects that should
be considered in setting prices - demand, value, politics, psychology,
and the marketing role. Bring your questions and be ready to see park
and recreation finances in a new light!
1. Learn the different budgeting techniques including zero-based,
incremental, and priority budgeting and which one is best for
your organization.
2. Explore the elements of budget management that occur year-round
to better balance your finances.
3. Identify how to utilize pricing and cost recovery strategies
to maximize revenue while still maintaining fees that your
community can afford.
4. Implement financial strategy techniques in your organization to
provide opportunities to situate your agency with more leverage
with decision makers.
