July is Parks & Recreation Month

in New Jersey

The New Jersey Recreation and Park Association (NJRPA) is proud to celebrate July as Parks & Recreation Month!

This year, we are especially honored that Governor Mikie Sherrill has officially proclaimed July as Parks & Recreation Month in New Jersey, while the New Jersey Senate and General Assembly have also adopted a Joint Legislative Resolution recognizing the tremendous value parks and recreation bring to communities across our state.

These official recognitions reinforce what park and recreation professionals know every day: parks and recreation are essential services that improve quality of life for everyone.

From neighborhood parks and playgrounds to trails, athletic fields, community centers, pools, nature preserves, camps, and recreation programs, parks provide spaces where people of all ages and abilities can play, learn, exercise, volunteer, and connect with one another.

Throughout New Jersey, park and recreation professionals and volunteers work tirelessly to create welcoming, inclusive, and accessible opportunities that promote physical and mental wellness, environmental stewardship, youth development, economic vitality, and stronger communities.

The Joint Legislative Resolution also recognizes the dedication of the more than 800 volunteer members of the New Jersey Recreation and Park Association, whose leadership, advocacy, and service continue to advance parks, recreation, and natural resource management throughout the Garden State.

Celebrate With Us This July!

Communities across New Jersey are hosting summer concerts, camps, fitness classes, environmental programs, festivals, movies in the park, family events, and countless recreational opportunities throughout July.

We encourage everyone to:

  • Visit a local park

  • Attend a community recreation program or special event

  • Explore a new trail or open space

  • Thank your local parks and recreation professionals

  • Share your favorite parks and recreation memories on social media using #NJRPA

Together, let's celebrate the people, places, and programs that make New Jersey healthier, happier, and more connected.
