ASSISTANT PARKS & RECREATION DIRECTOR

MONTGOMERY TOWNSHIP

The Township of Montgomery is seeking an enthusiastic and self-driven recreation professional to join our Parks and Recreation Department. Under the direction of the Parks & Recreation Director, the Assistant Parks & Recreation Director will develop the operational plans for the Parks & Recreation Department. They will assist in the planning, directing, evaluating and implements the programs and services of the Parks & Recreation Department; including parks maintenance.

Ideal candidate must have excellent customer skills with a Bachelor’s degree and 2+ years of experience in a supervisory capacity. Must be available to work at Township recreation events. Salary starts at $71,834.00 commensurate with experience with a comprehensive benefit plan.

COUNTY PARK RANGER

BURLINGTON COUNTY PARKS SYSTEM

This position is responsible for opening and closing parks and facilities, cleaning restrooms, trash management, and general maintenance while interacting with the public.

Under supervision, conducts daily routine custodial and security duties, and foot patrols along trails.  Inspects parks and related facilities; resolves and reports maintenance and other issues as needed.  

Engages with the public and permit holders, providing information pertaining to park use, events, points of interest, nature, safety.  Enforces laws, regulations and policies; responds to a variety of incidents and emergencies.  Participates in programs where applicable.   

Work hours:  Burlington County Parks are open from dawn to dusk, 7 days/week, 365 days/year.  Hiring for PM shift, which adjusts based on sunset.  40 hours per week; 3-week rotating schedule.  This is an essential position, which includes weekends and holidays.

REQUIREMENTS:

Appointees will be required to pass medical and psychological testing, a background investigation and successfully complete a training program mandated by the New Jersey Police Training Commission within 18 months of appointment. 

AGE: minimum of 18 years of age

LICENSE: Appointees must possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey.

EDUCATION: Graduation from high school, vocational high school, or possession of an approved high school equivalency certificate.

EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of experience in work involving the care, maintenance, and protection of park resources and facilities and/or in the conservation of natural, cultural, and other park resources and/or in the explanation and education of the public regarding such resources.

NOTE:   Satisfactory completion of thirty (30) semester hours of credit at an accredited college or university with at least six (6) semester hours of credit in one of the following areas may be substituted for one (1) year of the above experience: park and recreation management, the natural sciences, history, archeology, sociology, police science, urban affairs, criminal justice or the behavioral sciences.

SALARY:   $47,402.00

SUPERVISING COUNTY PARK RANGER

The Supervising County Park Ranger is responsible for leading the rangers in opening and closing parks and facilities, cleaning restrooms, collecting trash and recycling, litter pick-up, general maintenance, responding to a wide variety of park incidents, patrolling, inspecting and protecting the parks and related facilities and other duties as necessary while engaging with the public.  

Under direction, determines work procedures and prepares schedules for dawn to dusk, 7-day/week, 365 day/year operation.  Assigns duties to staff and reviews completed work for conformance to policies and procedures, manages supplies and inventories, and recommends personnel actions including hiring, training and disciplinary.  

This is an essential position which includes weekends and holidays.

PROGRAM COORDINATOR SPECIAL EVENTS

This position is responsible for leading county park exhibits, classes, workshops and major events covering arts, environmental, history, health & fitness, and culinary.   

Under direction, organizes, coordinates, promotes, and supervises large marque events, several art galleries and museums, and an extensive array of classes and programs throughout the year offered through the park system and with partner organizations.   

Oversees grants in areas such as Arts and History.  Manage and administer programs including funding sources, coordinates life cycle, ensuring clear guidelines, up to date website, promotion, reviews of progress and final reports, corresponding with applicants, and payments.  

Public communication to provide and promote relevant programming through the Parks’ website, program guide, social media and external partners.   Develops and maintains relationships with not-for-profit, service, education, volunteer, culture, business and government partners, vendors and others.

COUNTY PARK MANAGER

BURLINGTON COUNTY

The Park Manager reports to the Superintendent and assists in managing all aspects of the Parks System.  Burlington County prides itself on the appeal of its Parks System, which includes parkland, a fairground, an amphitheater, a historic industrial village, art galleries, museums, other historic structures, and a regional trail network.   The event calendar is extensive, offering an eclectic range of classes, workshops and exhibits including Health & Fitness, Nature, History, Art, and Culinary throughout our facilities, galleries, museums, and parks.  In addition, there are concerts, festivals and diverse entertainment for all segments of the population throughout the year.  Staff consists of approximately 50 members across Arts, History, Naturalists, Office, Maintenance, and Rangers.

The successful candidate will have the communication, organization and management skills to ensure events in the Parks System continue to be successfully conducted and facilities remain well maintained and inviting to the public.  Candidates should have experience working in government, coordinating events, writing and administering grants, managing contractors, procurement, M&O and working with diverse staff in a results-oriented environment.

MANAGER OF PARK MAINTENANCE

MORRIS COUNTY PARK COMMISSION

The Morris County Park Commission is seeking a Manager of Park Maintenance to manage the maintenance activities and operations for the Park Commission’s general-purpose parks and their amenities. The Manager oversees 30 employees and is responsible for planning, budgeting and enforcing work standards providing leadership and technical direction. The Manager acts as a Park Commission representative for contracted services and public interactions.

Candidates should have a minimum of five years of public park operations management experience. An Associate Degree in a related field is required; a Bachelor’s Degree is preferred. Candidates must possess strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills. Thorough working knowledge of MS Office Software programs including Word, Excel, Access and Powerpoint is required. 

F/T position with a 40 hour work week. Salary is $94,500 with a comprehensive benefits package.
