RECREATION DIRECTOR (INTERIM TO PERMANENT POSITION)

MONTVILLE TOWNSHIP - DEPARTMENT OF RECREATION

The Township of Montville is seeking an outstanding leader and manager to oversee, on a full-time basis, its Recreation Department. Qualified applicant will plan, develop, coordinate, schedule and promote recreation programs and activities designed to meet the needs of the community, including summer camp programs. Individual will also work closely with other Township Departments, coordinate facilities utilization with the Board of Education, plan special events, prepare monthly reports and attend monthly meetings with the Recreation Commission, the autonomous board which establishes policies and procedures for Township recreation programs and organizations. Individual must have experience in seeking, writing and administering grants, and have experience in the management of trust funds. Successful candidate must also have knowledge of NJ purchasing laws, and operational and capital budgeting, be computer literate with knowledge of Microsoft and Excel programs, have experience with Edmunds municipal software as well as CommunityPass recreation software, and be able to communicate through the Township’s social mediums. The interim to permanent position will include some

evening and weekend hours. Candidate must possess a valid driver’s license as well as a bachelor’s degree, preferably in recreation management. The candidate will possess at least five (5) years supervisory experience in recreation programming. GARDENER

BURLINGTON COUNTY

This position is responsible for basic park horticulture duties including landscaping, groundskeeping and event set-up/breakdown.  

Under supervision, performs routine work in basic plant care and maintenance of display beds, formal gardens, native gardens, hedges, trees and lawns in a public park setting. Basic skills and experience in landscape design, planting, mulching, watering, weeding, dividing, pruning, ability to recognize plant issues.  Familiarity with common, native and invasive annuals, perennials, shrubs and trees and best practices care.  Additional responsibilities include tree work, fall/spring clean-ups, storm and winter weather response; event set-up and breakdown; operates and performs minor maintenance on a variety of equipment, tools, and machinery used to care for and maintain grounds; trash management and other related maintenance duties as required.

Work hours: M-F  7am - 3:30 pm plus mandatory and voluntary overtime; this is an essential personnel position,

REQUIREMENTS:

AGE:   Minimum of 18 years of age

LICENSE:   Appointees must possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey.

EDUCATION:   Graduation from high school, vocational high school, or possession of an approved high school equivalency certificate.

EXPERIENCE:   One (1) year of experience in the planting and maintenance of lawns, beds, annuals, perennials, shrubs and trees in a public setting.

PREFERRED:   Related course work, certification or degrees in horticulture or similar subject. NJ Commercial Pesticide Applicator License in Category 3A – Ornamental.

MAINTENANCE WORKER 1 GROUNDS

BURLINGTON COUNTY PARKS SYSTEM

This position is responsible for basic park maintenance duties including landscaping, groundskeeping and event set-up/breakdown. 

Under supervision, performs routine work in the care and maintenance of outdoor areas such as park grounds, recreational areas, lawns, playgrounds, and plant beds including tree work, fall clean-ups, and snow/ice response; maintains and repairs park infrastructure such as benches and fences; participates in event set-up and breakdown; operates and performs minor maintenance on a variety of equipment, tools, and machinery used to care for and maintain grounds; performs trash management and other related maintenance duties as required.

Work hours:  Primary location is Fairgrounds and work schedule is Thursday - Monday 8am - 4:30pm plus mandatory and voluntary overtime; both location and schedule will adjust throughout the year based on events and Parks needs; this is an essential personnel position.

REQUIREMENTS:

AGE: minimum of 18 years of age

EDUCATION: Graduation from high school, vocational high school, or possession of an approved high school equivalency certificate.

Under the direction of the Director of Community Services, responsible for the organization and supervision of a variety of recreational sports and activities; conducts planned activities with assigned groups, implements programs for all ages, and initiates projects and reports on their progress; does related work as required.  This position includes varying hours including early mornings, evenings, and weekends, as needed. A minimum of two (2) years experience planning, promoting, and developing recreation programs at a recreation facility or community center; or graduation from an accredited college or university with specialization in recreation or similar field required.  Valid NJ driver’s license required. RECREATION PROGRAM COORDINATOR - P/T
