POOL MANAGER

LIFEGUARD

HAZLET TOWNSHIP RECREATION – SEASONAL EMPLOYMENT

We are seeking certified Lifeguards to work 20-30 hours per week. Incentives are given for working weekends and shift coverage. Must have the ability to recognize and respond effectively in emergency situations by activating the Emergency Action Plan (EAP), utilizing lifeguard surveillance and rescue techniques which may include quick movements, strenuous activity, and on occasion assist or lift persons in distress of varying weights. Ability to remain alert to dangerous situations while sitting, standing or walking for various lengths of time. Capable of following an assigned rotation, actively always guarding your zone; refraining from socializing while guarding. Ability to maintain rescue equipment in preparation for immediate response and keep the pool deck clean and free from hazards. Must be able to administer basic first aid in non-emergency situations and complete accident reports. Ability to communicate and enforce all policies and rules in a personable and professional manner. Must be able to utilize proper radio protocol and response in a timely manner. CAMP COUNSELOR

We are seeking Camp Counselors that enjoy working with children and serve as a positive role model for our campers (40 hours per week). Counselors must assist in the direction, supervision and organization of campers within activities and throughout the camp and assure campers are properly supervised and know each camper’s whereabouts. They should be knowledgeable of and implement all safety guidelines and nurture each camper’s development of social skills and self-esteem. FULL-TIME AQUATIC COORDINATOR / ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

The Township of Morris is seeking a Parks & Recreation Administrative Supervisor to oversee daily operations, facility permitting, the Clean Communities program, human resources, special events, and general recreation programming. This position also manages seasonal swim pool operations and employee work assignments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with scheduling and permitting for parks, recreation sites, and athletic facilities. Ensure compliance with laws, policies, and safety procedures.
  • Oversee special events and facilitate the Clean Communities program, including grants and reports
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Supervise concession operations and ensure payments are processed.
  • Provide budget preparation support and assist with policy development.
  • Support pool personnel management (pool personnel manual), emergency procedures (aquatic facility management procedures), and staff evaluations.

Assists with the Following:

  • Orientation, training, supervision, evaluation, and testing of aquatic staff.
  • Development and implementation of comprehensive program offerings, including standard aquatic programs, special events, and innovative classes.
  • Coordination and management of aquatic programs to ensure high-quality instruction, coaching, and customer satisfaction.
  • Scheduling and conducting in-service training sessions for aquatic staff, including teaching sessions as needed.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Education: High School Diploma required; Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Sports/Leisure Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years in related duties, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Skills: Knowledge of swim pool management, government purchasing, financial processes and state & federal regulations governing facility and pool operations.
  • Certifications:
    • Certified Parks & Recreation Professional (CPRP) preferred.
    • Must be a Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) or obtain within 60 days of employment.
    • Lifeguard/CPR/AED certification required or must be obtained within 60 days.
    • Lifeguard Instructor certification required within 120 days.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Valid driver’s license.
    • Strong communication and organizational skills are essential.
    • Ideal candidate is self-motivated and enjoys working with teen and young adult staff.
    • Experience in aquatic supervision and facility operations.

JOB FUNCTIONS: 

Under the direction of the Superintendent of Parks and Recreation, coordinates a variety of safe and dynamic recreation programs and large-scale community events at both park and school locations in Manalapan Township. 

Including but not limited to:

Create, coordinate and evaluate both new and existing recreation programs, including but not limited to athletics, therapeutic recreation and cultural programming.

Supervise and assist in the hiring and scheduling of Parks and Recreation programming staff. 

Provide assistance and support to the general public in relation to assigned duties and responsibilities. 

Work together with Recreation Department employees to achieve department goals.

Perform routine support duties to assist recreational programs, events, and activities.

Position will require night and weekend work within the 35 hour week to attend events and programs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s Degree Required (Recreation or related field a plus) experience in planning, organizing and conducting recreation activities, CPR/First Aid/AED, CPO certifications a plus; CTRS Certification (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist) a plus; experience working in therapeutic recreation or relevant disabilities services; grant writing experience; ADA familiarity; computer skills and Canva proficiency

This is a seasonal supervisory position within the Township of Morris Parks and Recreation Department. The Assistant Pool Manager has overall responsibility to assist the Pool Manager and be lead manager when the Pool Manager is not on duty with the safety of the pool, as well as managerial/ administrative, facility, aquatic, communication, and leadership duties, including:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Instill attention to safety among lifeguards, as well as pool members and guests
  • Must have good verbal communication skills, show initiative and enthusiasm. Must be able to motivate employees
  • Assist with recruitment and training of lifeguard staff
  • Assist staff training in operations and safety procedures; implements procedures and standards
  • Assist in scheduling all swim pool employees and properly recording hours
  • Administer First Aid, CPR, and other emergency and safety procedures, as required
  • Performs routine pool area maintenance as required; and ensures the cleanliness of facility, such as the pool, restroom, shower area, first aid room, and office space
  • Require all patrons to follow personal health and safety regulations as formulated by the NJ Department of Health and the Township of Morris Health Department
  • Conducts pre-season and in-season training for all swim pool personnel
  • Knowledge of the aquatic programs, procedures, policies, and general information
  • Listens and responds to patrons’ needs for assistance or information and provides the public with general information, in person and over the phone
  • Respond to patron and staff complaints and problems
  • Able to communicate with guests and staff in a professional manner
  • Investigates complaints and accidents and immediately informs the Pool Manager, Aquatics Coordinator and Director of Parks and Recreation
  • Tests the temperature, chlorine, and PH values of the pools on an hourly basis
  • Complete and/ or approved required safety checklists, logs and reports
  • Collects, counts, and records pool receipts from daily swim pool passes and swim lessons in receipt books at the end of each day

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associates degree recommended
  • Must possess a valid government issued ID and Social Security Card
  • Required to submit to a background check
  • Minimum of three (3) seasons of lifeguarding or three (3) years of supervisory experience
  • Current certification in American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/ AED or ability to obtain within sixty (60) days of hire

EXPECTED WORK HOURS

SUPERINTENDENT OF RECREATION

The Borough of Hopatcong seeks a full-time Recreation Director who has at least 5+ years of supervisory experience in Recreation work involving the planning, promotion, development, and supervision of Recreation programs and events.

COUNTY PARK RANGER

BURLINGTON COUNTY PARKS SYSTEM

This position is responsible for opening and closing parks and facilities, cleaning restrooms, trash management, and general maintenance while interacting with the public.

Under supervision, conducts daily routine custodial and security duties, and foot patrols along trails.  Inspects parks and related facilities; resolves and reports maintenance and other issues as needed.  

Engages with the public and permit holders, providing information pertaining to park use, events, points of interest, nature, safety.  Enforces laws, regulations and policies; responds to a variety of incidents and emergencies.  Participates in programs where applicable.   

Work hours:  Burlington County Parks are open from dawn to dusk, 7 days/week, 365 days/year.  Hiring for PM shift, which adjusts based on sunset.  40 hours per week; 3-week rotating schedule.  This is an essential position, which includes weekends and holidays.

REQUIREMENTS:

Appointees will be required to pass medical and psychological testing, a background investigation and successfully complete a training program mandated by the New Jersey Police Training Commission within 18 months of appointment. 

AGE: minimum of 18 years of age

LICENSE: Appointees must possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey.

EDUCATION: Graduation from high school, vocational high school, or possession of an approved high school equivalency certificate.

EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of experience in work involving the care, maintenance, and protection of park resources and facilities and/or in the conservation of natural, cultural, and other park resources and/or in the explanation and education of the public regarding such resources.
