DIRECTOR OF PARKS AND RECREATION Silver Spring Township, a suburban community of approximately 12,375 residents situated in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, is seeking applications for the position of Director of Parks and Recreation. Job responsibilities include: overseeing and coordinating the planning and development of park facilities, pursuing and investigating viable park and recreation grant opportunities, establishing and maintaining working relationships with volunteer and nonprofit organizations, preparing the department's annual budget, coordinating the organization, implementation, operation, and evaluation of recreation programs and their respective facilities, and overseeing the Supervisor of the Park Maintenance staff as well as being responsible for all work crews and contractors in all aspects of the operation and maintenance of the Parks and Recreation Department. Park Naturalist: Full-time, permanent Under direction, conducts programs designed to inform the public of the historical, natural, and scientific features of a park system or a particular park or other geographic area; does related work as required. Education/Qualifications: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in the Natural Sciences, Forestry, Conservation, Natural Resources Management, Agriculture, or Park Management. Appointees will be required to possess a driver's license valid  in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position. Responsibilities: Plans daily, weekly, and monthly work programs and develops effective work methods. Gives advice and assistance to the general public in the use of the park system and available facilities. Conducts tours, lectures, and classes.  Interprets ecology, history, and allied natural sciences to the general public and school children in the field and in the classroom. Keeps records, files, inventories, and records of budget expenditures for nature study programs. Conducts field research of natural areas and prepares recommendations concerning use of natural resources for program purposes and submits to superiors. Writes news releases, articles for newsletters, radio scripts, and copy for use in park system literature and brochures. Keeps attendance records of program activities. Prepares, sets up, staffs, and takes down displays and exhibits used to represent and interpret the functions, facilities, and resources of the park system. "SEASONAL RECREATION LEADER" - INTERNSHIP POSITION:   The Hunterdon County Department of Parks and Recreation is currently accepting applications for full-time Seasonal Recreation Leader/Intern positions for our 2008 season.  We are looking for talented students interested in gaining experience in the parks and recreation field, through paid internships with the Hunterdon County Department of Parks and Recreation. These positions will expose students to many facets of public parks and recreation programming, administration, and management issues, through participation in hands-on work assignments and a variety of public interactions. Employees/interns will be expected to work a maximum of forty (40) hours per week, in a schedule that may flex to include some evening and/or weekend hours.  Our main office is located in Clinton Township, New Jersey, but the actual work site will be at various locations, throughout Hunterdon County. DATES:Late May, through the end of August, 2008 QUALIFICATIONS:  The ideal candidates will have a minimum of three (3) years of college major studies in recreation/leisure, sports management, or a related field.  The positions are open to undergraduate and graduate students, as well as those who have recently completed their undergraduate or graduate programs and are seeking temporary practical training.  Applicants should be enthusiastic and self-motivated, have strong communication skills, and a knowledge of recreation programming principles & methods.  Must be able to work independently and within a team, which might be comprised of other interns, volunteers, and/or permanent employees.
